OUR CURRENT INTERESTS
Middle-Grade
Middle-Grade novels between 20,000-50,000 words.
We prefer stories that feature the underrepresented
Young Adult
Young adult novels between 45,000-75,000 words. We want sweeping adventures, high fantasy, found family, and hope.
Picture Books
We value education and finding the joy of reading early in life.
We prefer pre-illustrated picture books.
At Queen Anne’s Lace Publishing, we believe in the inherent value of every person, and the beauty of the story they have to tell. We aim to empower underrepresented genres, writers, and characters, and to give everyone a chance to shine. We want our stories to reflect this belief.
Middle Grade Fiction:
- We are seeking Middle-Grade fiction in the 20,000-50,000 word range.
- We want the stories to be vibrant and full of heart. We prefer those in the fantasy and urban fantasy genre but will consider submissions in any genre.
- We enjoy world-building, complex characters, twists on common tropes, and an understanding of the genre.
- We would prefer a finished manuscript (bonus points if edited by someone other than yourself).
- We prefer stories that feature the underrepresented. We want to empower the disenfranchised. We want to see stories about those with disabilities, those with chronic illnesses, cultural and racial minorities, and everything and anything in between. We want our readers to read, relate, and understand they are special in God’s eyes, no matter how underrepresented they are at large.
- We are especially interested in Middle-Grade fiction that primarily features an asexual and/or aromantic character, whether they are the main character or a prominent side character. We are dedicated to showing love is more than just romantic relationships.
Young Adult Fiction:
- We are seeking YA fiction in the 45,000-75,000 word range.
- We want stories we haven’t seen before. Show us pirates, high fantasy with dinosaurs, books like Redwall; we want your weird, your wacky, your authentic self.
- We enjoy world-building, complex characters, twists on common tropes, and an understanding of the genre.
- Please send us a finished manuscript with at least basic editing complete.

Picture Books:
- We are seeking picture books, both educational and those that simply tell an entertaining story.
- We are especially interested in picture books that explore: preschool learning (colors, shapes, emotions, etc), empathy, kindness, consent, cultures, cryptids (yes, we did say cryptids!), mythology, and folklore.
- We prefer pre-illustrated picture books, but also accept submissions of non-illustrated books (you MUST have an example of what the book will ideally look like, with the text formatted to each page and a general sketch. We want to understand your vision).
